The Parker Playhouse Theater, founded in 1967, is an integral part of the local arts community in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, hosting a variety of Broadway shows, plays, concerts, dance and educational events. Last year, a $30 million renovation and restoration project transformed the building from a historic theater into a state-of-the-art concert hall.
The theatre, now known as The Parker, has a seating capacity of over 1,100 and will welcome audiences with a variety of events starting this fall. The Broward Performing Arts Center, which has operated The Parker since 2005, has upgraded its loudspeaker and stage lighting systems as part of an effort to transform The Parker into a multi-faceted venue capable of meeting the demands of today’s live productions.
Joshua Delasant of CTS, who is project manager for contractor Peerson Audio, said the renovation was completed in two phases. Phase 1 included the integration of a new backstage AV system and the existing lobby area, while Phase 2 included an overhaul of the auditorium AV system and the addition of an expanded lobby area.

“Auras is our flagship product,” explains Robin Allemand, technical coordinator at The Parker. “We put them on most of our cords to ensure even coloration and they scale well. It’s great to have the ability to provide movement. We want to make sure the cords are lined up properly for the stage, for a fun look or general headwash look.”
Eight Martin ERA 800 Performance LED profile lights are mounted on an A-pillar V-rail for wide floods, powerful beams and eclectic patterns. CMY color mixing and a six-slot color wheel provide multiple mixing options, while static and rotating gobos and a full-fledged +/-60° rotation finder make ERA suitable for any production.
The Parker lighting system also includes 38 Martin ELP CL oval profile LED fixtures. The ELP comes with gear-driven precision focus that allows you to instantly adjust and lock focus, and an RGBAL Luxeon Rebel LED engine for vibrant color palettes.
“One of the main goals of the revamp was to make Parker’s concerts ever bigger and more valuable to today’s touring artists,” Foresta said. “When people see that you have a Martin device, they need to go there. Everyone already has a profile for him. This makes it easy for touring companies with their own consoles to take control and add the system to their business.”
