2024 BMW 5 Series Spy Wears Production Headlights and Taillights

As we get closer to the debut of the all-new BMW 5 Series, the camouflaged prototype gets more parts from the final production model expected in 2023.The latest scoop is the BMW 5 Series sedan, which appears to be wearing a production headlight and taillight setup for the first time, exactly a year after the model debuted.
The prototype retains the camo wrap and covers the entire body, but the lighting helps us reveal some details. The headlights have a similar shape to the new BMW X1, but are sleeker and more slender, with unique LED graphics. One side has its DRLs, kind of like BMW’s signature angel eyes, while on the other they’re off thanks to the LED turn signals that were running at the time of the shot.
Moving back, the 5-Series has a pair of slimmer horizontally mounted taillights. They’re similar in shape and placement to the larger 7-series flagships, but the full-LED graphics are different, reminding us of the X5 with the flash in the middle. Both the headlights and taillights look a lot better than the dummy units installed on earlier prototypes, giving us a better idea of what the production model will look like.
Overall, the sedan distances itself from the shock factor of the larger BMW, taking a smarter approach to design that caters to a wider target audience.Nonetheless, it will feature a large kidney grille, as well as new dynamic lines inspired by the Bavarian firm’s latest styling language. In addition to the four-door sedan, the 5 Series is expected to be offered in a more practical five-door wagon body style.Inside, an earlier scoop revealed a fully digital cockpit, similar to the curved displays found in several new BMW models.
The next-generation 5-Series will be based on the CLAR architecture.Like other models in the current BMW range, it will be available with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains.Competitors include the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class, as well as the soon-to-be facelifted Audi A6.Both will have electric vehicles based on different platforms — the Mercedes-Benz EQE and Audi A6 e-tron — unlike BMW, which opted for a more homogenous look and feel for the 5 Series and i5. Joint engineering development.
The design of the five-seat cabin is inspired by the “bionic philosophy”, especially the butterfly.
